When we remodeled our living room where I had a nice pair of floorstanders in my 2.1 music system, my wife informed me that there was no place in the new design for them. So I searched for a pair of bookshelf speakers to 'replace' them. I had a pair of Def Tech Pro Monitor 800s as fronts in another room for 5.1 movie listening, so I checked out their bookshelf options. We went to a BestBuy Magnolia room and auditioned their Deftech SM55s which sounded very full and crisp. Since my application was a larger room (18x28), I ordered a pair of the larger SM65s (were not in the Magnolia room). I was impressed right off the bat, and as a year has gone by, I am even more impressed. I have them sitting horizontally on shelves about 30" high, and angled slightly upward sitting on Auralex Mopads. The are powered by an old Denon AVR-3805 from either a Marantz DV-9600, an Oppo BDP-95 or a Chromecast audio (via a Peachtree DAC-Itx). Since they are 'studio monitors', they are not rear ported so the placement is fairly close to the back wall. I arranged to make sure their 'bass radiator' ends (tops) were pointing outwards, and there were minimal obstructions toward the side walls. I am VERY pleased with their low-end (no real need for subwoofer) as well as their clear, crisp but not sibilant tweeters. The mid-range is also clear and clean. I like them best at medium to high volume where they surprisingly fill the large room (with vaulted ceilings). I actually don't miss the (much larger and lower WAF) floor standers!Read full review

I love these speakers, I had to purchase a new center to seamlessly render the front soundscape. I originally had PM 1000's amd PC 2000 as the fronts on my theater, and was very happy. The complexity, the depth and range and true theater feeling that the upgrade to the SM 65s brings is simply remarkable. I'm using the CS 9060 as center at present, and have pushed the PM 1000s to the side. They sound great, but I'm sure at some point I'll replace them with SM 45s , 55s. or 65s...the studio monitor series is just that good. True pleasure, and I'm nowhere near the 72 hours recommended to condition (break them in) them fully. Bought from bajawaverunner, and as usual, am 100% satisfied. Why pay full price?

These are great sounding speakers. I have 3 for the L/C/R setup for my modest home theater. They were a huge step up over the PM800's and PC1000 I had. Now I need to upgrade my sub!

This is a refurbished speaker. Could not find one scratch, factory packaging, even had to put the feet on. Also had too allow conditioning for speaker. Bought this one for my center speaker that matches the front L and R . Just amazing !
