Be WARNED before you purchase a Quirky Spotter as it may no longer work with the WINK application. I recently purchased one only to find out that I could not add the device to the WINK application even though the box and documentation clearly state that it works with the WINK application. Let me be clear that the product appears to be working but there seems to be some compatibility/communication issue between the Wink application and the Spotter. Symptom: The Wink application states that the device was added successfully but then it is not available under your list of sensors/products. Several phones calls and email exchanges with WINK Customer Support and they responded that the product has an E-IMP protocol issue and that Quirky owns the rights to this; not Wink; so Wink could not fix. BTW...my previous experiences with Wink support folks has always been great and you get a live person within minutes who tries to help resolve your issue. The Wink support technician that I spoke with had knowledge of the Spotter issue and quickly escalated my concerns to a Supervisor who then explained the technical issue as to why the product does not work. Recommended solution was contact Quirky about this issue. Contacted Quirky support (support is via email only) and they stated that they are now Q Holdings LLC and only support products that are purchased from them on their website (NO spotters are on the Website) although the name Quirky is everywhere. They then suggested I contact WINK to resolve the issue or attempt to return it to the seller/retailer. It seems that the spotters are no longer made so the only products out there are used or new old stock. Beware eBay Sellers and Buyers alike. I would NOT recommend this product as you might get stuck; like I did; with a product that does not work or buyers complaining that you sold them a product that does not work.Read full review

This is a review of the first generation device. The strangest thing about this device was how to set it up. You have to shine the smart phone's flashing screen into the clear Wink window during installation. It is an optical set-up process. You might think it is an RF set up but that's not right. I wonder if the bad reviews I've seen on this product (no longer in manufacture) isn't because of that fact. Otherwise the directions and the devices (I have two) work fine. Sometimes the robots I set up don't act the way I thought I had intended but the bottom line is - I can sense my patio closet's temperature and get a warning notice if the closet's temperature falls below 33F. You need to keep the power supply connected to use all the features of the device. I think these were $99 new. I've been lucky to get them for a lot less. You see prices over $100 for new ones. I'd be patient. I don't know why Wink does not have a product to fill this temperature sensor niche. Get one if you can.Read full review
