This is the second time I've had this camera (lost the first one). Though I have not tried this one underwater, that was a big draw the first time I purchased and I expect this one will do admirably as well. We've mostly used for indoor, "around the house" pictures, including macros. The picture quality is good, though it can sometime be a challenge to get the desired focus point for macros.

You can pay a lot more for a camera that is maybe--MAYBE--slightly better than this one, but the Panasonic Lumix is an outstanding deal. My Olympus underwater point&shoot gave up the ghost after about 7 years of hard usage. I paid $120 for that 7 years ago. I just paid $130 for this one and the image quality is much better because of the change in sensors over the last few years. You can pay more, sure, but this one is good for anyone who wants to take pictures on dry land or under water (up to about 28 feet if I recall correctly). It is well built, the controls are easy to understand, and the separate video button makes a great improvement over earlier models.

All controls are intuitive. Focusing and video controls are simple. Have used underwater and just a few pictures that were regular. I think the performance for pics is okay - I would probably not use on landscapes.
