I have purchased & subsequently used not less than 4 of these 1.3MP cameras over the last 4-5 years and have always had nothing but great results with them. I wouldn't hesitate recommending an S30 to anybody - novice or otherwise. The macro on this item is pretty darn good for what it is, and when you're shooting at 1024x it's quality shines through that much more. Furthermore it's a sturdy, well laid-out camera. Aside from the overall simplistic layout and operation, I would have to say that the flip-up, rotating LCD is one of my favotite aspects of the unit. Be it sunny, overcast or low-light, one is able to make the necessary adjustments for viewing of subject whether it be overhead shots or on a low tripod. My only dislike about the unit is the tripod mount placement - it situates the camera well off-center and one has to either adjust a leg or overadjust the tilt option to acheive level frames every so often, but I would assume this isn't an issue on a ball head design mount. Lastly, the overall size & mass of the unit is increased over today's designs, but I like to actually have the heft of knowing there is something in my hand. Mass vs control - I'll opt for the S30 anyday. Pixels vs mass - be it only a 1.3MP unit it comes down to that old saying - "...it's all about how you use it." lol.Read full review
This is a very compact, point and shoot camera, which takes fantastic pictures! The menu is very easy to navigate and the 1.3 Megapixel, 6x Digital Zoom Lens, also takes amazingly close MACRO shots which I found very helpful in my eBay auction pictures. Digital cameras with this MACRO capability are hard to find. The SONY 16MB memory stick holds approximately (50) 1024x768 images, the SONY NP-FM50 Li-ion battery holds a charge for three hours (183 minutes), the SONY AC-L10B power supply/charger allows you to operate the camera while plugged into an AC outlet and also charges the battery. I have a SONY desktop, laptop and photo printer, ALL with Memory Stick slots and the convenience of transferring pictures from my DSC-S30 camera is remarkable as well as fast and easy! This has to be the most versatile, easy to use compact camera, that I have ever owned and enjoyed using!Read full review
I've owned a Sony DSC-S30 for over 10 years.. I used it on construction jobs..The flip screen makes it great for shooting hard to shoot areas.. It takes great pictures.. The thing I have enjoyed the most is you can leave it setting for a long time and the batt. is still full.. This camara takes better photo's than my new Sony.. I was lucky to find a used one in great shape. After 10 years of use my old DSC-S30 camara was working great until I dropped it in a ditch ... To me this is the best camara ever made ...For a 1.3 Mega Pixels Camara you can't beat it..
The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S30 is a great camera. This was my first digital camera and I'll never buy anything but a Sony product. It takes awesome pictures for a 1.3 Megapixal. The 6X zoom allows to get the close-up pictures you want. The rotating and flip up/down display screen is a great feature.
I bought the Cyber-shot a month ago to replace my old one that "bit the dust" after several years of hard use. My work requires me to get into tight spots to take photos such as in crawl spaces under houses. The articulated screen allows me to put the camera into places I can't get into and take photos "around the corners" of small openings. The quality of the photos are great for up to 5x7 photos which are all I need for my reports. The smaller digital files are also very easy to email. Great camera for a reasonable price.
