You'll gain speed, you'll save battery if it's installed in a laptop, and it'll be more crash-proof than a platter drive. No need to defrag. Depending on the capacity, you may want a small-capacity SSD for a boot drive and a larger backup drive either internal or external. Backing up to at least one other drive is always a sound idea, be it the cloud, another external or internal drive, or a flash drive or SD card. This is a good size for most people and Samsung makes cutting-edge SSDs. Go get your own.

I bought it for my wife's computer because i'm the one that always works on it, and i was tired of how slow her regular hard drive was. I have an SSD in my laptop as well, so i've gotten used to the speed. the Samsung SSD is SOOOO much faster, i love it. the only thing that bothers me, is there's no way to update the firmware.
I placed this unit into a USB3.0 enclosure for portability. It's not a flash drive, but a lot more difficult to lose or misplace. Works very fast!!
