We have a 10-year old, Dell Inspiron 531 Desktop, purchased it brand new, took very good care of it, as it was, and still is, an old war horse, built to last. One night, I was surfing music videos on You Tube, and, all of a sudden, without warning, the entire screen locks in a distorted, yet definite rectangular geometric pattern. Poo. Experience has taught me that it was either the CMOS button cell battery of the RAM sticks, or maybe both. Additionally, it really doesn't make sense to install brand new RAM sticks in a tower that's 10 years old. So, I searched around and found some factory reconditioned parts, in used but serviceable condition. Worked like a charm.
