The Western Digital drives have never left me down. My motherboard on the other hand..........! Bought this because I thought another hard drive took a dive, but it was just the motherboard, Two of the 4 Sata connectors on board, quit working. Installed a 4Sata port card, plugged this in and the system recognized it right off with no problem. I've had faster HDD's but this is definitely A-OK for the money. I currently use this for System backup function. I use it to store: system images(for multi boot OS's), data backup, etc. That is how confident I am in my WD HDD's ability to operate 24/7 without a problem. It runs quiet and efficiently, at an average temp of 48dC. Can't ask for any more really! If you can pick one up at a reasonable price, Why Not? Like I said, I have never been disappointed by a Western Digital Drive.Read full review

The seller advertised perfectly, and mailed fast. The drive works for what it is. The drive was purchased to possibly save data by changing out the main board on the drive from this one with a customer drive. Western Digital has a rather lengthy history of bad bios chips which loose their programming. Once in a while you get a dying drive and can replace the electronics with same model, and sub-number and save a drive. But in this case it was a waste of money. Western Digital should offer free data recovery for owners of their junk drives.

Western digital is one of the top on my recommendations for reliable hard drives. Just as long as you stay away from their questionable "green" series which is a low power line of hard drives that have high failure rate due to that design. In general though, traditional harddrives have never been more affordable in that you can get a 1 tb drive for under $100. Due to the moving parts of traditional hard drives though, they have a higher failure rate then that of the newer solid state drives that will be replacing them in the coming years.
Performance and reliability for everyday computing. These drives are built utilizing the proven technology of the original award-winning WD Caviar 3.5-inch hard drives for desktop computers. Built to the highest standards of quality and reliability, these drives offer features and capacity at an affordable price.
My customer ran out of room on his original 60 GB and I needed an upgrade. I looked at dozens of drives before I choose this one. Our priority was a good value from a noted manufacturer. We agreed that a 500 GB drive would give him enough storage to last him years. The installation couldn't have been easier. In no time we had windows loaded (thanks to the 7200rpm of the Western Digital Caviar Blue drive). I have used other drives, but none as easy to use as this.
