I bought this model of camera for my wife a few years ago and she loved it. Later I bought her a newer, high quality camera without an eye level view finder. She liked it but still preferred the Kodak because it had that eye level view finder, much easier to use in bright sunshine. She dropped it from an upper level cafe to solid concrete below while on vacation last month and was devastated. I was delighted to find I could still purchase another identical camera (minus the dents and missing pieces). It was delivered in just a few days and I'm (still) my wife's hero!

The camera did not work at all. It did turn on...but there is no viewing any image on the lcd in the back or through the lens. the button to take the photo does not work, also.

This is a very good digital camera. The lens is what makes this camera a sleeper deal! It's a Schneider-Kreuznach 36mm-432mm (12X) with optical image stabilization. This lens has allowed me to get very good bird and other wildlife photos. The Kodak color balance is excellent The main negative about this camera is battery related. The Kodak Klic 8000 batteries recommended don't seem to make reliable contact in the camera. Many people online mentioned this, but I found a fix online and decided to buy it anyway, figuring I could fix this glitch. I tried an online fix using aluminium foil to bridge the contact. It worked so I came up with a durable long term fix using a small disc of copper and soldered it to the positive terminal with a short wire jumper. This totally transformed the camera to a fast booting camera with a long lasting battery life! It will work with alkaline AA batteries, but the life and performance is terrible, but Lithium-Ion AA batteries might work well and eliminate the need to modify the Kodak battery. The other negative is somewhat nit-picky. The Kodak charger is over priced. I bought a cheap charger for under $10 on ebay to use in my vehicle and wish I hadn't purchased the $24 Kodak model since the cheap one operates on 115VAC house current as well as 12VDC. Over all, I am well pleased with the camera.Read full review
The Camera is very easy to use and is a good value for the mid range price cameras. I have used the camera for hundreds of photos in all settings (indoor, outdoor, low light, full sun etc...) and it has produced clear focused photos consistently. It also has the options for more advanced enthusiests who want to use Fstops and manage light manually. Some macro issues, but only when attempting to take photos from extremely close range. Most amateur cameras do not have the capacity to use in this manner anyway so overall a very nice compact camera...works great and looks pretty darn cool too!
Bought used for a good price.Have other cameras that are a level above this.Have to say with my medium experience with cameras all way back to 1970.This camera is a great camera if you buy at used price and get a model that is in good shape.Picture quality is good and for a beginner and intermediate it has features to let you learn or just snap nice pic of people or flowers or animals or any thing in general. The battery some say it doesn't take a lot of pic but you should get about 200 pics a charge, need the Kodak or knock off li_ion battery and charger.200 pics is a lot to review and crop and changes. It is a nice general purpose camera that you should enjoy has 12 x optical zoom.Yes there are features missing but for just taking party pics and general pics it is a good camera.Paid about $69.00 with accessories.Yes i would recommend it to have around to snap pics. You can turn it on and put it almost any program and take a pic and they will come out good,so what iam saying you could turn it on and hand it to someone and they could take a decent picture they would like. Not to much bad to say,you cant compare apple to oranges this model camera is old now but still worth having at a good price iam happy with it and i have about 6 or 7 other cameras, but the z 712 is fun to use.Hope this help some.Read full review
