This HDMI adapter is known as a type C because it is the MINI size. It cannot be used with a standard "A" HDMI port because: 1. This Mini connector is smaller than the type A plug, measuring 10.42 mm × 2.42 mm but has the same 19-pin configuration. It is intended for portable A/V devices. 2. The pins are wired differently: The differences are that all positive signals of the differential pairs are swapped with their corresponding shield, the DDC/CEC Ground is assigned to pin 13 instead of pin 17, the CEC is assigned to pin 14 instead of pin 13, and the reserved pin is 17 instead of pin 14. A converter plug could be used to convert it from C to A but the price point of the adapter makes it uneconomical. The adapter derives its power from the HDMI port and can get warm with extended use.

This is a neat solution to the problem of connecting a pre HDMI computer to an HDMI TV or monitor. Inexpensive and works perfectly. Shipping a bit of a wait from China , but it arrived in good working order.

This box works fine and allows my little ASUS netbook to display a nice image on a big TV. But cables are an issue and it's too bad that the seller doesn't offer a solution. You're probably going to need a VGA male to male, an audio cable (probably 3.5 mm jacks at either end), a USB to USB mini cable to power the box, and an HDMI cable. The first three cables connect to the PC so there's going to be a cable clutter issue. They ought to all be the same length so they can be bundled together. There are VGA/audio cables that use unconnected VGA pins to transmit the audio. That helps but the .5M length of the supplied USB to mini USB cable is an odd length and you're probably going to have to replace it with one that matches the length of the VGA cable. Not a big deal but I wish that the seller offered the necessary cables. That could be a .5 M VGA/audio cable or a 1 M USB to mini USB cable. However I suspect that there are enough unused or redundant pins on the VGA cable that it's possible to combine the USB cable (5V & ground) in it and get things down to one cable from the box to the PC. Much cleaner.Read full review

It should mix video/audio over the HDMI output. That's what HDMI do, but this converter despite the audio input will not be able to mix it on the HDMI from a laptop's output. Ads must tell this. Good Idea bad product.
