Something else I associate (visually) with Web 2.0...the "slanting" of template design samples on a page....you know, a lot of people do it with WordPress theme designs,..is there an actual "official name" for this? Anyone?

web 2.0 certainly has started a few design trends, but has contributed to confusion about what web 2.0 is. And what it is, is technology platforms. What it looks like at the front is neither here nor there, for web 2.0. What is relevant is that its a step closer to the semantic web. Great article, and I am sure it is articulated a lot of people's frustration with the fact web 2.0 has become a fashion. The social networking events I have been too contained an alarming number of vacuous beautiful people. But I am assuming the semantic web really wasnt a concern for them ....

You're right! I also hate that pseudo-webdesigns which came out in last few months. Every 2.0-site is just the same shit as the one before it.

"maybe adding the use of FAMFAMFAM silk icons web 2.0 as well." - I agree. They're good but seriously over-used. People who call themselves designers in particular should make their own icons.

Jim is off base quite a bit. Web 2.0 has nothing to do with design or icons or colors. It refers to a perceived second generation of Web-based communities and hosted services such as social networking sites, wikis and folksonomies that facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. Here are some examples of Web 2.0: blogging, MySpace, wikis, participation (and web communities), Flickr, web services (and mash-ups), AJAX, Wikipedia, tagging ("folksonomy"), RSS feeds (syndication), BitTorrent, Napster, Google AdSense, search engine optimization, cost per click, etc.
